Time to return those books to the library...

I wonder why it is that I have eyes bigger than my mind...in other words I find all these awesome books to read and then realize when I get home that I have to be a mom. I just don't have the time or energy to finish nearly enough of the books I bring home.
But tonight I had to return two Montessori books, two books on cooking with grains and one book on Waldorf methology. (I also have several books on loan from friends...I hope I don't have any fines from them!)
So here are my refined notes:
Rudolph Steiner wasn't a person I could spend much time with, but I love his ideas about getting the kids to spending a big block of time on one subject and them moving on....similar to our idea of unit studying and FIAR. I also took away his idea of teaching reading and writing with more art and color. We will incorporate this more into our Handwriting without Tears methodology. I also liked his poems and story ideas to help teaching the parts of speech. We will incorporate this into our Montessori grammar labels and our Charlotte Mason work for grammar.
I also want to have more natural toys in the home. I need help from the kids to sort through the plastic and electronic (toys that play by themself) things to share or give away to others. This will be done in the month of October.
I loved cooking new recipes for quinoa and millet this week. I made bread that turned out great and also served millet to my extended family when they came on Sunday. I didn't hear any threats. (why don't more people cook with whole grains? It really is no brainer in my humble opinion)
And lastly. I have purchased my own copy of Advanced Montessori Method. I just can't get through it all and absorb all the great ideas that I want to incorporate into our school room.

My last book report is...well you'll just have to read my next post. :)
