CM Notebooks we use:

Narration notebook- In 2016, I tried something new for keeping narrations for my jr high and high schoolers.  I bought one hard back book to host all written narrations for one child.  This included math narrations, history, literature, etc.  It was to slow down on the lost written papers and be a focused place for written narrations.  It continues to work well for us.

Copybook- begins in 1st or 2nd grade.  Allows consistent improvement of handwriting, spelling, grammar, punctuation.  This continues for many years and may go through several books over their years.  Mom picks the copywork.  It may be passages of books they are reading, bible passages that they want to memorize, readings they will hear at Mass the coming Sunday.

Nature Notebook-begins as soon as they can draw (pre-K?)  I encourage at least one page of drawn and written narrations weekly.   This covers much of the science info that they will need to collect for the first forms.  There may be more entries during nature walks/summers/extended periods outside.  This may be several books through their years. Best option is spiral bound that lays flat for easier writing.  This must be sturdy that can be carried in a back pack and can handle watercolors, pastels, colored pencils, etc.

Book of Centuries-started when they are in 5th grade.  A century timeline that they fill up through the rest of their school years.  This is a life long book.

Commonplace book-an extension of the their copybook, but a child's own choosing of famous quotes, interesting facts, etc.  They may wish it to be written beautifully with one quote per page or many quotes written on one page.  This is a lifelong book begun in 7th or 8th grade.

Math journal-Used over many years.  Sometimes an extension of family math or games or needing extra explaining on math lessons.  Might have things glued in.  Typically a lined book.  Begins in 4th grade.

Family Book of firsts- a place to record the firsts throughout each year.  The first robin we see, the coldest snow, the earliest blooming flower, the first leaf to fall, etc.  This is one book kept forever for the whole family.  Anyone is free to write in it.

Industry notebook-This is loosely based on Charlotte Masons "Enquire Within" book suggested in Formation of Character.  It's a structural framework for a child to use over 8 years (beginning around age 10) in which they build their knowledge of running a household.  It includes recipes they handwrite, to instructions on rope tying and changing a tire as well as how to wash a load of laundry.

Music composition book- a place to record songs in the music staff which we have listened to as we study a composer.  This may help to instill a better understanding of music and how it is played/read in various staffs.  This begins junior year of highschool.
